Two things in that sentence are worth pausing on. The trial is six times longer than the standard one. And “of any age” is Amazon’s phrasing, not ours — a mature student is a higher-education student, and the tier is not restricted to eighteen-year-olds.

The saving is roughly $70 a year against standard Prime, plus five extra months of trial. Over a three-year degree that is a meaningful number, and it is available for the cost of a verification step most people finish in a couple of minutes.

The gate, and why it trips people up
The route Amazon describes for higher-education students is sharing a .edu email address. That is usually the whole process, and it is immediate.
Where people get stuck is when it is not. A few honest observations, labeled as what they are:
- Verification can sit in progress. Amazon does not publish a timescale for this and it is not something we can source, so we are not going to invent one. It is a normal state, not a rejection.
- Not every institution’s email is recognized instantly. Amazon may ask for other proof of enrollment. That is a documentation step, not a decision against you.
- Reverification is a normal part of the tier. A discount tied to enrollment has to be re-checked, and accounts are asked to confirm they are still eligible. A membership that cannot be reverified moves to standard pricing rather than being canceled.

The difference is the gate, not the price. Prime Student verifies enrollment. Prime for Young Adults verifies age — 18-to-24-year-olds — using a driver's license, passport or identity card to confirm age; higher-education students can use a .edu email address instead.
