Prime Visa
The Prime Visa's travel and purchase protections
Eight protections come with the card. Each one has a limit, a time window and conditions, and those are the part worth reading.

The short answer
What protections come with the Prime Visa?
Eight, and each has a limit worth reading. Extended warranty, purchase protection, auto rental coverage, baggage delay, lost luggage, travel accident insurance, roadside dispatch and zero liability. Chase publishes a dollar figure or a time window on almost all of them, and those numbers are the whole story.

At a glance
Every protection, with its limit
Benefit lists on card pages are usually a row of names with no numbers attached, which makes every card look the same. Here is the same list with the figures Chase publishes put back in.
| Protection | What it covers | The limit |
|---|---|---|
| Extended Warranty Protection | Adds time to the manufacturer's U.S. warranty | One extra year on eligible warranties of three years or less, up to four years from purchase |
| Purchase Protection | Damage or theft of eligible new purchases | 120 days from purchase, up to $500 per item (90 days for New York residents) |
| Auto Rental Coverage | Theft and collision damage on most rental vehicles | Requires declining the rental company's collision insurance and charging the full rental to the card |
| Baggage Delay Insurance | Essential purchases while your bag is missing | Up to $100 a day for up to 3 days, when baggage is delayed over 6 hours |
| Lost Luggage Reimbursement | Checked or carry-on baggage lost, damaged or stolen | Up to $3,000 per covered traveler (New York: $2,000 per bag, $10,000 per trip) |
| Travel Accident Insurance | Accidental death or dismemberment on a covered trip | Up to $500,000, when the fare is paid with the card |
| Roadside Assistance | Dispatch of help in a roadside emergency | Service fees are billed to your card at time of dispatch |
| Zero Liability Protection | Unauthorized charges on your card or account | No dollar cap stated; does not cover use by an authorized user without your approval |

Worth using
The three that earn their place
Extended Warranty Protection
Extended Warranty Protection extends the manufacturer's U.S. warranty by an additional year, on eligible warranties of three years or less, up to four years from the date of purchase (Chase — Prime Visa, verified 2026-08-12). This is quietly the most valuable benefit on the card for an Amazon shopper, because it applies to exactly the sort of purchase people make on Amazon: appliances, electronics, tools, anything with a one- or two-year manufacturer warranty.
Read the eligibility condition carefully, though. It applies to warranties of three years or less, and caps the total at four years from purchase. A product sold with a five-year warranty gets nothing. A product with a one-year warranty gets two years of cover. Retailers sell extended warranty plans on precisely these items; if you paid for the item with this card, you may already have the first year of one.
Purchase Protection
Purchase Protection covers eligible new purchases for 120 days from the date of purchase against damage or theft, up to $500 per item (90 days for New York residents) (Chase — Prime Visa, verified 2026-08-12). Two limits matter here: the 120-day window and the $500 per-item cap. Most of what people buy on Amazon falls under $500, so the cap bites less often than it sounds. The 120 days is the tighter constraint — damage that shows up in month five is not covered.
The New York variation is not a footnote we are padding the page with. If you live in New York your coverage period is 90 days, a full month shorter, and Chase says so explicitly.
Auto Rental Coverage
Auto Rental Coverage reimburses theft and collision damage for most rental vehicles when you decline the rental company's collision insurance and charge the entire rental to the card (Chase — Prime Visa, verified 2026-08-12). This one has the most conditions and is the most frequently misused. You have to decline the rental company’s collision damage waiver, and you have to charge the entire rental cost to the card. Split the payment, or accept the desk’s waiver “just in case”, and you have paid for both and are covered by one.
It is also worth knowing what this is not. Chase describes it as reimbursement for theft and collision damage — it is not liability insurance for damage you do to other people or their property. That is a different product and this card does not replace it.

Travel cover
What happens when the trip goes wrong
Baggage Delay Insurance. Baggage Delay Insurance reimburses up to $100 a day for up to 3 days for essential purchases when baggage is delayed over 6 hours (Chase — Prime Visa, verified 2026-08-12). The trigger is a six-hour delay, and the payout is capped at $300 across three days. That buys a change of clothes and a toothbrush, which is precisely what it is designed for. It will not fund a replacement wardrobe.
Lost Luggage Reimbursement. Lost Luggage Reimbursement provides up to $3,000 per covered traveler for checked or carry-on baggage lost, damaged or stolen during a covered trip (New York residents are limited to $2,000 per bag and $10,000 per trip) (Chase — Prime Visa, verified 2026-08-12). This is the larger benefit of the two, and the one with the state-specific carve-out. Note that it covers repair or replacement of the baggage and its contents during a covered trip, which is a narrower window than “any time your bag goes missing”.
Travel Accident Insurance. Travel Accident Insurance provides up to $500,000 in accidental death or dismemberment coverage when you pay for air, bus, train or cruise transportation with the card (Chase — Prime Visa, verified 2026-08-12). A large headline number attached to a genuinely rare event. It is a real benefit and it is not a reason to choose a credit card.
Roadside Assistance. Roadside Assistance dispatch is available, and the service fees are billed to your card at the time of dispatch (Chase — Prime Visa, verified 2026-08-12). Read that carefully, because the wording is doing a lot of work: what you get is the dispatch, not the service. The tow truck still charges, and the charge goes on the card. It saves you finding a provider at midnight; it does not save you money.
Zero Liability Protection. Zero Liability Protection means you are not held responsible for unauthorized charges made with your card or account information (Chase — Prime Visa, verified 2026-08-12). Standard across the industry and worth knowing about anyway. The exclusion is the interesting part: it does not apply to use of the account by an authorized user without the primary cardmember’s approval, which is one more reason to read who you add and why before you add anyone.

The gap
The benefit this card does not have
Trip cancellation and interruption insurance is the obvious absence. Some Chase cards reimburse pre-paid, non-refundable fares when a trip is canceled or cut short by illness or severe weather. The Prime Visa is not one of them — it is not in the benefit list Chase publishes for this card, and we are not going to imply otherwise by describing the travel protections in vague terms.
If trip cancellation cover is the reason you are choosing a card, you are looking at the wrong tier of product. That benefit generally lives on cards with an annual fee, and the trade is a real one: pay $95 a year, get cover you may never claim on. We work that trade through on Prime Visa vs Chase Sapphire Preferred.
One more honest caveat that applies to this entire page. Every one of these benefits is governed by a Guide to Benefits document with definitions, exclusions and claim deadlines that run to many pages. What we have published here are the headline terms Chase states on the card page, sourced and dated. Before you rely on any of them for a specific purchase or trip, read the guide — the difference between a paid claim and a denied one is almost always in that document, not in a summary like this one.
Where the answer is no
Skip this if…
You are choosing a card for its travel insurance
There is no trip cancellation or interruption cover here. A card with an annual fee and a proper travel benefits package is the right tool, and pretending otherwise would be the kind of claim this site exists to avoid.
You expected the protections to be automatic
Every one of them requires the purchase to have been paid for with the card, and several require specific behavior at the point of sale — declining the rental desk’s waiver, for instance. A benefit you did not activate is not a benefit.
Your purchases routinely exceed the caps
Purchase Protection stops at $500 per item. If you are buying furniture, a laptop or a camera body, the cover is partial at best and should not affect which card you reach for.

Common questions

- How long does Prime Visa purchase protection last?
- 120 days from the date of purchase against damage or theft, up to $500 per item. New York residents get a 90-day coverage period instead.
