Amazon Store Card

Where the Amazon Store Card's 5% actually goes

The rate is the same as the Visa's. What you can do with the reward afterwards is not, and that difference is easy to miss.

The short answer

Where does the Amazon Store Card 5% go?

Into a reward balance inside your Amazon account, spendable at Amazon. The rate matches the Prime Visa’s, but the reward is not the same instrument: a closed-loop card produces a closed-loop reward. There is no Chase points balance, no cash back option, and nowhere outside Amazon to spend it.

The rate

What you earn, and on what condition

The store card earns 5% back at Amazon.com and Whole Foods Market for cardholders with an eligible Prime membership (Yahoo Finance — Amazon Store Card review, secondary source, verified 2026-08-11). That is the same headline number as the Prime Visa, and it carries the same condition — an eligible Prime membership. Without one, nothing accumulates at all, which is the whole subject of the no-Prime page.

It also earns on a narrower base, because the card itself is narrower. The Prime Visa’s 5% applies at Amazon.com, Audible.com, Whole Foods Market and Chase Travel, with an eligible Prime membership (Chase — Prime Visa, verified 2026-08-11). The store card is Amazon purchases only — Amazon.com, Amazon Go, Amazon Fresh, Audible, AWS, Alexa Skills, and your Amazon Prime membership charge (Yahoo Finance — Amazon Store Card review, secondary source, verified 2026-08-11). Chase Travel bookings, for instance, are a 5% category on the Visa and simply cannot be paid for with the store card.

The difference

Same rate, different money

This is the distinction that gets lost in every comparison that stops at the percentage. Two cards can pay 5% and hand you two quite different things.

The fourth and fifth rows are the ones with money in them. Chase lists the Prime Visa’s redemption options as eligible purchases at Amazon.com checkout, cash back, travel and gift cards (Chase — Prime Visa, verified 2026-08-11) — cash back among them. A store card reward has no equivalent exit. It is Amazon credit by construction.

Whether that matters depends entirely on you. If your rewards were always going to be spent at Amazon anyway, a reward that can only be spent at Amazon costs you nothing at all. If you would rather have taken $200 as a statement credit one year, the store card never offers you that choice. That is a real difference between two cards that look identical on a comparison table, and it belongs in the head-to-head.

Finding it

Where to look, and what you will see

Everything to do with this card’s rewards lives on the Amazon side rather than the issuer side, which is the opposite of the Prime Visa arrangement and a common source of confusion for people who hold both.

At checkout. Select the store card as your payment method and any available reward balance is offered against the order. This is the most direct route and the one most people use without ever visiting a rewards page.

On the card’s page in your Amazon account. Your Amazon account holds the card’s summary, including the reward balance and recent activity.

Not in a Chase account. There is no Chase relationship here at all. If you are looking for a store card balance in a Chase login, you are looking at the wrong card — which of the four Amazon cards you actually hold is worth settling first.

One more thing that is not your reward balance: your Amazon Gift Card balance. It sits close by, is also denominated in dollars, and is a completely separate pot governed by different rules. We separate them on gift card balance vs rewards balance.

When it looks wrong

Two ordinary reasons a balance moves

Rewards post on settlement, not on order. An order placed today has not necessarily earned anything today. Card rewards across the industry attach when the transaction settles, which for a physical good usually means when it ships. A balance that has not moved after a big order is normally a timing question rather than a problem.

Returns reverse rewards. This is standard and it is written into the Chase terms in as many words on the Visa side: points are earned on purchases of products and services, minus returns or refunds (Chase — Prime Visa, verified 2026-08-12). The same logic applies on any card rewards program — you were rewarded for a purchase, the purchase was undone, the reward is undone. A balance that fell without you spending anything is very often a return that has just processed. The full list of ordinary causes is on the missing points page, and the return case specifically is on returns, refunds and your points.

We are not going to publish a Synchrony expiry policy, because we could not reach one to verify. What we will say generally: a reward balance is worth spending rather than hoarding, and it is worth clearing before you close an account, on any card.

Common questions

Common questions

Where is the Amazon Store Card rewards balance?
Inside your Amazon account, on the card's rewards page, and at checkout when the card is selected as the payment method. It is not a Chase points balance and does not appear anywhere in a Chase account.
Can you get cash back from the Amazon Store Card?
The store card's reward is designed to be spent at Amazon. Unlike the Prime Visa's points, which Chase lists as redeemable for cash back among other options, a closed-loop card's reward has nowhere else to go.
Is the Store Card 5% the same as the Prime Visa 5%?
The rate is the same and the condition is the same — both require an eligible Prime membership. What differs is what the reward becomes afterwards and where you can spend it.
Why has my Store Card reward not appeared yet?
Rewards post after a purchase settles rather than the moment you order, and a return reverses them. A pending order that has not shipped has usually not earned anything yet.
Do Amazon Store Card rewards expire?
Synchrony does not publish an expiry policy we could reach, so we will not state one. Treat any reward balance on any card as worth spending rather than storing, particularly before closing an account.
